Rare Earth Magnet on keeper (mounting bracket) These kidney shaped *multi-poled magnets were originally used in disk drive motors. These magnets are great because you have a way to mount them easily. The keeper (bracket assembly) has holes and is threaded. Tie a string to send it down a hole, screw it to a board and snap it on your project. They are NdFeB (Neodymium) rare earth magnet. The assembly is made up of two magnets, each on its own keeper and attached together by torx bits. They are sold this way for safety. It is easily taken apart. The magnet that is on the keeper measures 1 1/2" across the kidney shape and 11/16" up and down. The magnet itself is only 1/16" thick. With the keeper it measures 2 3/4" across. It is one strong little magnet.
